Seungjoon Song tried to capture the color of the calm earth which has always surrounded all things. He lacquered metal blocks partly and oxidized the margins. Lacquer painting can be completed by a number of coatings and oxidation is formed by natural factors for long such as humidity and wind. Through these two methods of surface finishing, he wanted to imply the ‘time’ of the land that has been forming since the beginning of everything. The combination of the polished surface of the human-finished lacquer and the raw, abstract surface of the natural-finished oxidation form a quiet change and contrast in red-brown monochromatic color, completing an object that can be appreciated.
