Inutile Lights by Daphna Laurens
Updated: Jan 6
The conceptual idea of form minus function, dealing with shapes that in future times might lose function because of scientific and technological developments, made Daphna Laurens contemplate about the relation between form and function in their work from a new point of view. Whereas form minus function and the ‘unused’ shapes seems manageable, the thought of function minus form is a conception that for them, lovers of form, is slightly ‘frightening’ but certainly challenging. The very first ‘function minus form’ exercise resulted in a series of T-shaped lighting fixtures called Inutile.
