Vilbert Chair by Verner Panton for Ikea
Updated: Jan 25, 2020

In 1994, Verner Panton sketched Vilbert for Ikea. The chair consists of four laminated MDF boards screwed together. It was sold in Ikea in two different color variations. At the time Ikea owner Ingvar Kamprad had the idea to bring in products to the usual furniture pieces that were created by famous designers exclusively for Ikea. Suitably to the enterprise philosophy they should have been relatively cheap and affordable for everyone.
Even though the edition was supposed to be limited to 150 pieces only, they sold 3000 Vilbert chairs worldwide and were quickly out of stock.
