Mirror Mirror by Studio Alain Gilles

The project Mirror Mirror is about reflecting on our society. The idea of analysing and investigating oneself, a tireless search for the self, is an aspect of our modern society. Modern society has become clouded by appearances and the image which we reflect back on ourselves through new technologies and social media networks such as Facebook and Instagram.
The first large mirror shows the reflection of ourselves as if it were already the actual person, as though that person were already none other than his or her own reflection, since it is this reflection which will be echoed and transformed by the small mirror observing that image. This second mirror is supported in the way in which a hand would support any of our connected objects. The second little mirror is itself a prism which transforms the image and puts it through the mill of our society. This social prism is represented by the grid, the matrix which is the essence itself, the fabric, of society as a whole. But this perception is then swallowed by a gulf, that of the echo of the image which is repeated to infinity and disappears, little by little.
At the same time, the large and small mirrors, reflected in each other, represent support and mutual help, since they are in interaction with each other, even acting as a kind of shared walking stick, each supporting the other.
The materials used are tubular structure in lacquered metal or laser cut metal plate, mirrors, horizontal orientation mechanism for the small mirror.
This projects was previewed at the Art Brussels fair, 22nd to 24th April 2016.
