Spina Stool by Hatem Hatem

Updated: Jan 28, 2020

A study in systemic integration rather focuses on bringing formal, structural, functional, and ornamental systems together through the development of a novel geometric language. Spina is an application of Hatem's ongoing study and an exploration of a Line-to-Surface geometric language.

Spina, a gallery stool, is the result of an investigation in the design process and fabrication of novel structures. Following an integrative branching system, the overall form of the piece acts as a spinal connection between the sitter and the ground. The stool is fabricated through sand casting into a single piece of brass metal, a process that emulates the seamless growing nature of the piece.
