Well Proven Stromboli Edition by James Shaw and Marjan van Aubel
Updated: Jan 28, 2020

Inspired by a trip to the volcanic island of Stromboli courtesy of the Fiorucci Trust a land of black rocks and sunsets, James Shaw in collaboration with Marjan van Aubel produced a new collection of Well Proven Furniture including the first ever Well Proven Chaise. Using the same process as the previous Well Proven Furniture, they developed a technique of adding powdered graphite to the mix and specially mixed spirit stains to dye the legs.
The Well Proven Furniture began with the discovery that within industry between 50-80% waste is created in processing raw timber into usable products. They decided to try and make a new material from this waste that usually comes in the form of sawdust, shavings or chippings. They discovered a bizarre reaction between this wood waste and bio-resin where the mixture expands up to five times its original volume into a strong, lightweight foamed material.
