COD Project by Rami Tareef for Gaga & Design
Updated: Jan 29, 2020

COD Project by Rami Tareef was born from his desire of embracing the truth of the material by creating chairs and stools from the geometric patterns formed by wrapping and weaving cords around spare, steel frames with the aim of modernizing the traditional weaving techniques.
The project tries to illuminate the differences and similarities between craft and design; it tests and stretches the limits of their hybridization, and tries to end up with something identifiable from that past world. The project deals with wicker furniture, a traditional craft product, and preserves its production values while incorporating innovative design features from the world of mass production.
As a culture researcher who seeks to formulate a new and fresh dialogue of fascinating intercultural encounter between east and west, he explores the limits of the current discourse between craft and design, new and old, traditions and technology towards progressivism. Experimental craftsman who works on preserving traditional crafts through design.
